An example of a teaching activity

Proper handwashing to reduce the spread of germs (suggested age level: kindergarten through third grade)

  • Place a small amount of vegetable oil on students' hands and sprinkle cinamon on their palms to represent germs.
  • When the teacher asks the students to wash their hands with cold water only, they will notice that the "germs" remain on their hands.
  • The teacher should instruct the students to use warm soapy water and the students will see the "germs" wash away.
