  • Inhalant abuse is a particular problem in younger children because most inhalants are not illegal to purchase, even by very young children.
  • Some examples of these highly accessible inhalants:
                  • white out
                  • paint
                  • fingernail polish remover
                  • whipped cream cans
                  • household cleaners
                  • markers
  • Physical signs / Indicators of inhalant abuse
          •  loss of appetite
          • weight loss
          • slurred speech
          • glassy eyes
          • skin discoloration
          • nervous tremors
          • coughing and sneezing
          • serious headaches
          • skin rashes around nose and mouth
          • chemical smells
  • Immediate effects of  inhalant use and abuse
          • memory loss
          • weakness in arms and legs
          • respiratory problems
  • Long-term effects of inhalant use and abuse
          • paralysis
          • nerve damage to face
          • brain damage
          • liver damage
          • death
