Emergency Care : subdivision of School Health Services (which comprises part two of the Comprehensive School Health Program) continued...
 

  • If an emergency should arise:
      • note severity of injury
      • contact the parents of the injured child
      • make sure the injured person is placed under the care of physician or parent
  • When reporting an emergency-- you must know:
      • exact location of emergency
      • exact telephone number
      • your name, building, owner of building
      • exact nature of what happened
      • number of injured victims
      • condition of the injured or the victims
      • what is being done now to aid


School Health Environment (part three of the Comprehensive School Health Program)

  •  Foster Cooperative Relationships
      • Three types of individuals within the school you want to become friends with
            a.) school guidance counselor--he/she can help you with behavioral problems among students
            b.) custodial staff--important to be kind to the custodial staff.  They are the ones who stock your 
                  supplies, and clean the unpleasant smell of vomit if a child should become ill.
            c.) secretarial staff members--they are the individuals who can help you when you need last minute
                 photo-copying done.
  • Treat people with respect
  • Note the physical setting (i.e. temperature, lighting, decorations--correct eye level for students)
  • Note the psychological setting
      • Suggestions for creating positive psychological environment
          • call each student by name
          • give positive reinforcement for positive behavior
          • talk to each student every day
          • correct negative behavior on a one-to-one basis
          • ask "feelings questions" as well as "knowing the answer" questions
          • make sure every student gets to perform as a helper in classroom maintennance activities (don't play favorites)
          • be pleasant, smile, and use direct eye contact when talking to students
